Namesake

Gwendolyn Woolley was born on October 2, 1896 in Centerville, Utah. She graduated from the old Salt Lake High School. She received her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Utah and her Master’s degree from Columbia University in New York. All of her adult life was spent as a classroom teacher, beginning in 1915 in Utah. During those early years, she also taught in Idaho and Arizona. Her first job in Nevada was in Moapa, where she taught for three years. In 1936, while the Hoover Dam was under construction, Gwendolyn moved to Las Vegas to accept a teaching position, a position that she held until her retirement in 1966. After retirement, she taught for four more years at a small private school for girls. Gwendolyn Woolley passed away on February 7, 1994, in Santa Clara, California.
