Our Garden
Woolley Elementary has a garden of 7 raised beds and an herb garden. This garden is in the the middle of the school in the courtyard giving great opportunity for students to inquire about the garden and teachers to incorporate the garden into their weekly lesson plans. The garden club, the art club, and the science lab are regulars in the garden space. Students spend time learning about being good citizens and working together in addition to science and agriculture concepts. This garden started constructed last spring with assistance from Green Our Planet. Due to a grant from the Nevada Department of Agriculture, we are expanding the garden with more raised beds, irrigation, and a composting bin. Our current maintenance is supplied by our local farmer from Garden Farms. He comes once a week to educate students about the garden, and maintain the current garden conditions. With additional beds, composting bin, and the farmer’s market, each grade will have maintenance responsibilities throughout the year. We also have 2 community garden experts who have committed to assist classrooms.
